My name is Tanja Ware and I have been an artist, in one way or another, for
most of my life. Some of my earliest memories are of painting and drawing. I
was thirteen when my first paid illustration was printed... I was hooked!
People gave me money for painting and I knew what I wanted to do from then
on. Commissioned portraits provided extra money all through school. Next
came a 23 year plus career as a commercial illustrator/graphic designer. After
an early retirement, I decided to try my hand at fine art.
Currently, I am a visual artist working in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel & pen
& ink with pastel being my preferred medium. I work in a realistic style,
although not photo realism. I am not an abstract painter, however, I do enjoy
the abstractions that result from painting subjects realistically but in a close
focus format or from unusual angles. I work in a variety of genres including
still life, landscape, wildlife, portraiture and western. Native American works
are a favorite.
In 2001, myself and two other ladies founded an art association, the Finley
River Fine Artists Association. Over the years, we have enjoyed several
successes including: an expanding membership, operating a cooperative art
gallery and implementing several public art programs to further community
awareness of art. I have served several years as president and continue to be
I participate in several local, regional and national art shows/competitions
each year. I am represented by two galleries and in the past few years have
been an invited artist at the National Fall Harvest Festival at Silver Dollar City,
